NOUSIA (“NOUSIA”, “we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, hold and disclose personal information, and how you can access it, correct it or make a complaint. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
It applies to everyone who uses nousia.com.au or deals with us, including applicants and operators in training, mentors, employers and partners, job candidates and website visitors.
1. Who we are
NOUSIA trains operators for Australia’s frontier industries and works with employers on hiring, up-skilling and applied research. We are based in Melbourne, Victoria. You can contact us about privacy at contact@nousia.com.au.
2. The personal information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you deal with us. It may include:
- Identity and contact details, such as your name, email, phone number, postcode and date of birth.
- Application details, such as your education, work history, the roles you’re interested in, and how you heard about us.
- Eligibility information, such as citizenship or residency status, and, where a role requires it, information needed to prepare for a security clearance or background check.
- Training and assessment records, such as the work you submit, assessment results, mentor feedback, your skills record and progress, and your interactions with our AI tutor.
- Employer and partner details, such as business contact details and information about the roles and capability you need.
- Job applicants to NOUSIA: your CV, links you provide and notes from our hiring process.
- Technical information, such as IP address, device and browser type, pages visited and cookie data.
Some of this may be sensitive information under the Privacy Act (for example, information relevant to a security clearance, or health information you choose to tell us so we can support you). We only collect sensitive information with your consent, or where the law allows it.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you apply, enquire, book a call, train with us or use our website. With your consent, we may also collect it from referees, employers who sponsor or hire you, and providers who conduct checks you have agreed to. Where we collect information about you from someone else, we take reasonable steps to let you know.
You can deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym when making a general enquiry. We can’t assess an application, train or place you without knowing who you are.
4. Why we collect, use and disclose it
We use personal information to:
- assess applications and eligibility, including citizenship and clearance readiness for relevant roles;
- build, deliver and personalise your training pathway, including through our AI tutor;
- assess and verify your skills and keep your skills record;
- match you with roles and, with your agreement, share your record with employers;
- respond to enquiries and manage our relationships with employers and partners;
- recruit our own staff;
- operate, secure and improve our website and services; and
- meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We use AI tools to personalise training and support assessment. People review decisions that significantly affect your progress, placement or eligibility.
5. Who we disclose it to
We may disclose personal information to:
- employers and hiring partners, when you agree to be considered for a role;
- employers who sponsor your training, limited to your progress and skills record;
- mentors and assessors who review your work;
- service providers who help us run NOUSIA, such as cloud hosting, communications, scheduling, analytics and AI providers, under contracts that require them to protect it;
- providers of checks you have consented to; and
- government agencies or others where required or authorised by law.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Before disclosing personal information overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it in line with the APPs. Where practical, we use Australian data centres for training and assessment records.
7. Direct marketing
We may send you information about NOUSIA programs, events and opportunities. Every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time by emailing us. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
8. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses essential cookies to work properly and analytics cookies to understand how it is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although some features may not work without them.
9. How we store and protect it
We hold personal information electronically with reputable cloud providers and protect it with access controls, encryption, monitoring and staff training. We keep it only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as required by law, then securely delete or de-identify it.
If we experience a data breach likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
10. Young people
Our programs are open to school leavers, some of whom may be under 18. If you are under 18, we may ask a parent or guardian to consent to certain uses of your information, such as sharing your record with employers.
11. Access and correction
You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing contact@nousia.com.au. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why and how to complain.
12. Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please email contact@nousia.com.au. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated. If we make significant changes, we will let you know.
